The Board of Directors at BACB is delighted to announce that Susie Aliker, previously Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary and Executive board member, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approval.
As a Board member of BACB, Susie is well-placed to lead the Bank into its next phase, with an objective to deliver sustainable profitable growth. Susie’s background in the financial services sector and her deep knowledge of BACB, together with her significant involvement over a number of years in both helping to develop the Bank’s strategy and dealing with a range of financial and regulatory matters optimally position her for this key role.
Susie joined BACB in 2014 and since that time she has overseen all aspects of finance, including business strategy development, and has also acted as company secretary to the Board of Directors.
A qualified accountant and MBA, Susie’s specialism lies in international finance and she has 20 years’ experience in financial services. Her career began on the Unilever graduate training programme, following which she worked in corporate finance and strategic planning roles in the retail sector. She joined Credit Suisse in 1998 and over a 14 year period held a number of global management roles and was ultimately responsible for new business for all divisions of Credit Suisse across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Susie is a former governor of the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies and has a deep knowledge of East Africa, having travelled extensively across the region. Susie is married to a Ugandan lawyer and has four daughters.
Susie succeeds Paul Hartwell, who joined BACB in September 2014 as Chief Executive Officer. Paul has successfully led the Bank into a period of renewed growth and has recently taken the decision that now is the right time to move on.
